It’s my favorite time of the year! I LOVE the holidays for so many different reasons–the gathering of family and friends, the joy of giving gifts to the ones you love, the baking of xmas cookies, decorating the tree–it’s all my favorite! But one of the many things I like about the holidays as a Pediatric Physical Therapist is helping families choose gifts that will help their little ones learn and grow, especially when it comes to sensory toys! So here’s my list of great sensory toy ideas for holiday gifts for the YOUNG CHILDREN in your life! Happy Shopping!

Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox

I love sandboxes, and I wish that more families would invest in one. It’s such a great sensory experience for the kids to have their hands and feet in the sand, building things, digging, and just experimenting with the sand and sand toys. Step2 makes a really good quality sandbox. We had this one for years, and then handed it off to another family once our kids outgrew it!

Step2 Rain Showers Splash Pond Water Table

Water tables are so GREAT! I love them for littles of all ages. Kids love water, and playing in water for hours is fantastic. Add in some sand (if allowed by mom and dad!), and that’s another sensory experience!

Play Tent with Balls

Play tents are great for a quiet place for kids to go if they need some time to decompress and calm their body down. Add in some balls (like a ball pit), and that’s extra sensory input to help them relax. There are so many colors and sizes to choose from!

Creativity for Kids Sensory Bin

These small indoor sensory bins are great. They have a variety to choose from including Beach (sand), Outer Space (rocks), Ice Cream Shop (sensory sand), and more. Even having a few different bins would be great!

Pop Fidget Sensory Toys

I have these in my clinics, and I love using them mixed in with gross motor activities. Kids of all ages love them as well. It’s a good toy for a quick fidget break or for a child who may need to keep their little fingers busy in order to be more attentive to their teacher.

Play Doh Ice Cream Playset

I love Play Doh. I loved it as a kid, I love it as a parent, and I really love it as a pediatric physical therapist. It’s such a great toy for building hand strength, building imagination, and it’s great for sensory seeking kiddos. This Play Doh Ice Cream Playset is super cute, but really any Play Doh products are fantastic!
